It's International GIS Day! Let our GIS team help you find solutions to complex project challeng

Happy GIS Day! This day is an international celebration of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology. GIS is a system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present all types of geographical data. GIS Day highlights the real-world applications of GIS that are making a difference in society.

Did you know that CP&Y’s GIS team provides a wide array of capabilities to support your projects?

GIS: An Overview

Our GIS team has extensive experience in the management of large volumes of GIS data, GIS data collection, GIS data conversion, and the development of web mapping applications. Our staff routinely provide support for GIS-CAD conversions, digitizing paper sources, and the production of effective maps for a variety of clients.

Meet Our Team and Learn About Their Passion for GIS!

Our GIS team consists of three full-time staff and one intern that provide their broad range of capabilities to all of our service lines with oversight from our Project Managers.

Angela Gillmeister

Loves putting her clients’ minds at ease by solving problems with the magic of GIS. She internally serves as the GIS Coordinator for the group and can support any project with a full scope of GIS capabilities.

Alex Bonelli

Always asks the question “How can we make this easier?” He helps the team automate GIS processes with Python and works hard to bridge the link between GIS and CAD software.

Johnny McGlone

Thrives when a challenging new task arises that requires innovative workflows. His diversity in GIS applications make him the ideal solution engineer.

Grant Statton

Our newest GIS intern. He supports our team in the production of exhibits, manages right-of-entry databases and maps, and provides field data collection support.

How Our GIS Team Can Help You

Learn how our GIS team can help you today! Discover more about the benefits of the following services:

  • Online Mapping: Our GIS team leverages the capabilities of interactive maps to enhance the decision-making capabilities of our clients. Using the ArcGIS Online platform, the team produces dynamic maps that allows users to understand more than just the location of a feature.

  • Field Collection Preparation & Support: GIS team members are all about helping you find a field data collection device and method that works best for you and your team. They do the work ahead of time to set you up for an easy and successful time in the field and can support the post-processing and analysis of the data once completed.

  • Image Classification: Did you know that aerial imagery can be used beyond just viewing? The team can extract features from aerial imagery to develop vector data that can be analyzed against other geospatial features. They have developed impervious cover and tree canopy layers based on aerial imagery.

  • Data Acquisition: The team regularly supports design engineers by obtaining data and converting it for use in CAD. The team can locate or generate the best aerial tiles, contours, or other geospatial data for your project and convert it to a format that works for you.

  • Exhibit Preparation: Paper maps are not dead! The team regularly creates visually appealing exhibits to serve as the focal point in decision-making discussions for internal working meetings, client meetings, and public meetings.

Brushy Creek: Showcasing ArcGIS Online as an Invaluable Asset

Brushy Creek Municipal Utility District approached CP&Y with a need to understand how their infrastructure corresponds to today’s current development. Because they were only utilizing the original as-built plans there was no way to understand where the District’s assets lie compared to newly developed areas. A raw waterline was the victim of construction damage multiple times by developers in the field because the District did not know the waterline’s exact location compared to the new construction.

Our GIS team set up an ArcGIS Online platform for the District and produced several dynamic maps that show its raw waterline and water distribution network alongside up-to-date aerial imagery, property lines, and other informative geospatial data. In-office staff and field teams now have the ability to quickly and easily view this data, giving the District the power to improve the management of its assets. Our team also serves as an on-call GIS consultant for the District for additional mapping and analysis support needs.
