Richardson SCADA System Upgrades and Updates
The City SCADA system consists of 20 remote sites including multiple pump stations, lift stations, elevated storage tanks, pressure zone control valve stations, and metering stations. The engineering services included electrical, instrumentation and controls design to update the existing SCADA HMI, PLC, Pump controls, and field
instruments. We also provided architectural engineering services to upgrade the SCADA control room and a hydraulic study on the existing pumping scheme.
Our team addressed the following items in the upgrade:
-
Existing pumping hydraulic analysis
-
SCADA architecture and network communication
-
SCADA HMI design, database, screens, historian and reports
-
PLC design for all remote sites including pump stations, elevated storage tanks
and lift stations
-
SCADA remodeling design and structure design
-
Pump control schematic design
-
Water quality instrumentation design
-
Power quality monitoring and data log
The new SCADA system uses Wonderware Application Server Intouch as SCADA HMI software and Schneider Electric Modicon M340 PLC for all remote sites. The HMI System is running in VM Ware virtual machines in the City’s Data Center. SCADA HMI system communicates with all remote site controllers through the City’s fiber-optic network.
