Subsurface Utility Engineering

Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE)

By implementing the technical methodology of ASCE 38 guidelines for the depiction of buried utilities, our team of engineers, SUE technicians, and staff have the ability to provide your projects with accurate utility mapping to aid in design, reduce utility conflicts, and provide a safer construction environment, via any of the four Quality Levels (QLs).

Our staff includes three Professional Engineers that are TxDOT SUE pre-certified. We use state-of-the-art geophysical locating equipment to identify underground facilities and structures, including private, abandoned and undocumented utilities. Horizontal discrepancies and utility line omissions are just a few of the many utility inaccuracies that result in higher project costs. Using reliable and accurate subsurface data results in confident design decisions regarding underground utilities.

SUE is a vital element in the pre-design process as it yields specific utility mapping data that can be used for financial projections, risk management, substantial project savings, and a reduction in project delays. SUE aids and compliments design efforts regarding unforeseen utility conflicts, construction delays, and redesign costs by identifying these issues and making minor horizontal and vertical modifications.

We recognize that different projects require different SUE approaches. Our experience and understanding of the application of the four SUE all QLs (A, B, C, and D) allow us the ability to provide the correct QL for your individual project needs.
